Library History: The State library agency in Maryland began as the Division of Library Extension in 1946. In 1968, the agency was reorganized and renamed the Division of Library Development and Services (DLDS) of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
The mission of DLDS: "We commit ourselves to providing leadership and consultation in technology, training, marketing, funding, resources sharing, research and planning so that Maryland libraries can fulfill their missions now and in the future to the people of Maryland."
The vision of DLDS: "Maryland libraries will be the people's "first thought for Information" in the 21st century."
